Michel de Nostredame, also known as ‘Nostradamus’, was a very famous astrologer, physician and reputed seer whose ‘prophecies’ are still making noise nowadays. The French prophet left several guesses that have come true over the course of the years, which has taken his name to the next level. But what the Covid-19 pandemic? Did he also predict it?

Conspiracy theorists have been enchanted by this man and given how things have developed during this crazy 2020 year, that is going to continue happening for more years to come, even though more people are starting to discover that not all the prophecies are completely true.

Among his most famous predictions, we find the rise of Adolf Hitler, the great fire of London in 1666 and even the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Moreover, Nostradamus could have predicted more things, including the pandemic we are living in right now.

Did Nostradamus predict COVID-19?

If you take a look at his most famous book, “Les Prophéties”, a collection of 942 poetic quatrains, you can find a lot of interesting and curious things that will make you think about what was happening in the mind of this man when he wrote the book.

One of those quatrains talks about something that could be understood as the COVID-19 pandemic we are living at this moment. Several people are convinced that he warned of this plague.

"The great plague of the maritime city. It will not cease until death is avenged. Of just blood, condemned for a price without crime.”

This is complex because Wuhan, the place where the disease started, isn’t a maritime city, but Covid-19 started and was spread in the city's seafood market, raising  plenty of eyebrows when people found out about this prophecy.

There were more claims about Nostradamus predicting the coronavirus outbreak but using different quatrains, some even were made up to scare the general public.

“There will be a twin year (2020) from which will arise a queen (corona) who will come from the east (China) and who will spread a plague (virus) in the darkness of night, on a country with 7 hills (Italy) and will transform the twilight of men into dust (death), to destroy and ruin the world. It will be the end of the world economy as you know it.”

This last one was proved to be fake by investigators, as there was no evidence that Nostradamus ever wrote that. Yet, there was another one that seems to be more accurate and brings more details about what the seer wrote.

The Prophecies of Nostradamus by Erika Cheetham, first published in 1973, is a complete translation of all the things the seer “watched” and wrote. Rae Alexandra wrote this, explaining that this is a more accurate prediction than the prior two.

“I found both a reference to "plague, lightning and hail at the end of March," and, more importantly, this:

In the feeble lists, great calamity through America and Lombardy. The fire in the ship, plague and captivity; Mercury in Sagittarius, Saturn warning.”

Plague and captivity are obvious references but it’s also worth noting that he spoke about America and Italy, two of the countries that suffered the most from this situation. Although Italy seems to be recovering from the plague, America is getting worse and worse by the day. Alexandra also explained that Mercury, Sagittarius and Saturn have also a big meaning in this prediction.

“Mercury entered Sagittarius in December 2019, which is when the first cases of coronavirus occurred, and Saturn moved into Aquarius on March 21, right as New York City was going into lockdown.”

Although more people seem to be skeptical of Nostradamus, others are convinced that the man was legit and his guesses were actually accurate. You can decide to believe or not, but something about these words stays in your mind.
